Check out the 2012 Wisdom of the Crowds BI Market Study
This year marks the third publishing of Howard Dresner’s “Wisdom of the Crowds™ Business Intelligence Market Study,” now available for download from Tableau Software: http://www.tableausoftware.com/learn/whitepapers/wisdom-crowds-business-intelligence-market-study.
Dresner, a top BI thought leader (he actually coined the term ‘Business Intelligence’ while an analyst at Gartner Research) and now President of Dresner Advisory Services, spends nearly half a year collecting and analyzing customer feedback on a large group of BI vendors. The result is 94 pages of analysis and commentary – including over 70 charts and tables – that provides a big picture look at the Business Intelligence market and how it’s changing. A few highlights from this year’s report follow.
- Functional alignment and adoption of BI remains nearly evenly split between IT and various business functions. Increasingly, functions other than Finance and Sales and Marketing have grown in their adoption of BI.
- The proliferation of multiple BI tools continues to accelerate as line of business independently invests in solutions. Nearly half of the largest organizations reported the use of four or more tools.
- Only 41% of respondents completely agreed that their BI initiatives have been successful, with smaller organizations reporting greater success than larger ones.
